Avoid Points on Your License

Avoid Points on License Attorney in South Carolina

Most states, including South Carolina, utilize a point system to mark your driving record when you have a traffic violation conviction. The more violations you have, the more points you accrue, the higher your insurance rates and the closer you come to having your license suspended. In fact, as few as 12 points can cause your license to be suspended in South Carolina.

Contact Lord Law Firm, LLC at (866) 603-6656 or (803) 932-6126 or e-mail us to get a good defense now. From an Irmo law office, we help clients all over the state as well as out-of-state residents ticketed in South Carolina avoid points on their licenses.

The Driver’s License Points System

Two Points:

  • Driving 10 mph above the posted limit, or 10 mph too fast for conditions
  • Improper lane change, including changing lanes without signaling intent
  • Defective tail lights or headlights
  • Failure to dim your lights for oncoming traffic

Four Points:

  • Driving more than 10 mph but less than 25 mph above the posted limit
  • Failure to yield right of way to pedestrians or traffic
  • Illegal turns or passing when no-passing restrictions are in place
  • Ignoring a traffic device or signal

Six Points:

  • Driving more than 25 mph above the posted limit
  • Reckless driving
  • Passing a stopped school bus

Automatic Suspension:

A DUI or drug possession conviction is an automatic suspension for a set period of time, ranging from 120 days to a full year or more.

Avoid Rising Insurance Rates

Your insurance company tracks your driving record with a similar point system. As your points build up, insurance rates rise. In some instances, one traffic violation can increase your rates 1,000 percent.

If you lose your license, you may very well lose your livelihood, particularly if you have a commercial driver’s license. If you have a family, the hardship will fall on them, too. A skilled traffic defense attorney can:

  • Win a not-guilty verdict or minimize the consequences on the back end of the ticket
  • Save you points on your driving record and money on your insurance
  • Safeguard your livelihood and your family's security
  • Help you secure a special restricted license to drive to work or school, even if you are convicted of traffic violation
